Bright ideas…

Hello, I’m graphic designer Sarah Thompson, and Watermark Creative is me! Along with the help and support of my partner, photographer Clint Eley, and a band of talented and experienced collaborators including writers, web developers, illustrators, retail consultants and printers who help turn ideas into reality.

As a child, I dreamed of being a ‘Blue Peter’ presenter, the one that made things, not the one that climbed tall buildings! That love of making and doing took me to art college for a degree in Visual Communication, and on into my 30-year career as a graphic designer. I’ve worked at various London agencies including the award-winning Hildebrand Design and started Watermark, originally in London’s Docklands, back in 2004.

It’s a career that I thoroughly enjoy, as much for the diversity of people and organisations I work with, as for their varied demands on my skills. Projects range from developing brands, logos, websites, annual reports and brochures, on and off-line adverts and newsletters, to graphic panels for 3D spaces such as shops and exhibitions – I’ve even worked on a bus and a rickshaw!

I’m also fascinated with what makes people tick, and I take a keen interest in the science and psychology of visual communication. How and why can human behaviour be influenced by what we see? Take a look at my ‘Other thoughts’ for some musings.

A restless creative spirit, I love to explore other artistic outlets including handmade felt textiles, surface pattern design, and upcycling furniture, along with traditional and digital drawing and painting.

Whatever your design needs, whether you’re starting a new business or brushing up your branding and marketing materials for an existing one, then I’m sure I can help (or will know someone who can). So get in touch, I’d be delighted to chat.
